Screening for Plagiarism

All articles submitted to Jurnal Al-Ikmal will be screened for plagiarism using Turnitin. Jurnal Al-Ikmal will immediately reject any manuscript that contains plagiarism or self-plagiarism.

Before manuscripts are sent to reviewers, they are first checked for similarity by the editorial team using a plagiarism detection tool. Articles submitted to Jurnal Al-Ikmal must have a similarity index of less than 25%. If the similarity percentage exceeds 25%, the manuscript will be returned to the author for correction and resubmission.

Plagiarism refers to presenting another person’s ideas or words as one’s own without proper acknowledgment, permission, or citation. Plagiarism may appear in various forms, from verbatim copying to improper paraphrasing. To help authors understand what constitutes plagiarism, we highlight several possible situations below:

  • Literal Copying — An author may copy another author's work word-for-word, either in whole or in part, without permission, acknowledgment, or citation. This type of plagiarism can be identified by comparing the suspected manuscript with the original source.
  • Substantial Copying — This occurs when an author reproduces a significant portion of another author’s work without proper permission, acknowledgment, or citation. The term “substantial” refers not only to the quantity of text copied but also to the qualitative importance of the copied material within the overall work.
  • Improper Paraphrasing — Paraphrasing involves rephrasing ideas, words, or phrases from a source into new sentences. This becomes unethical when the author fails to cite or acknowledge the original source. This form of plagiarism is often more difficult to detect but remains unacceptable.

Jurnal Al-Ikmal is committed to upholding academic integrity and ensuring that all published works meet ethical standards in research and scholarly communication.
